Mountain Lions tame Tigers 69-38

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Young Harris College scored the game's first 16 points and 25 of the first 29 as the Mountain Lions defeated Trinity (D.C.) University 69-38 in a women's basketball game Saturday (Jan. 28) afternoon at the Trinity Center.
 
The Mountain Lions won their fourth consecutive game and improved to 17-3 while the Tigers fell to 9-4. Young Harris returns to action next Saturday (Feb. 4) when they host Brenau University in a 2 p.m. Cancer Awareness Game at the YHC Basketball Arena.
 
Young Harris started the game by hitting seven of its first eight field goals as they opened up a 16-0 lead with 15:24 remaining on a Ladondra Johnson layup. Peyton Robertson had six points during the fast start while Lauren Smith added five and Johnson had four.
 
After the Tigers got two free throws from Bree Martin and a Christa Burgess layup, the Mountain Lions reeled off nine straight points to take a 25-4 lead when Miata Askew hit the front end of two free throws with 8:28 to play.
 
Young Harris took a 42-15 lead at the half as they limited the Tigers to 14.8 percent (4-of-27) from the floor while the Mountain Lions shot 48.5 percent (16-of-33). Young Harris took its largest lead at 32 points (52-20) when Kaycee Cash hit a jump shot with 13:02 remaining.
 
It was a balance scoring attack for the Mountain Lions as everyone played scored. Johnson led Young Harris with 12 points. Smith finished with nine; Robinson added eight while Breanna Gleeson and Shereese Williams tallied seven. Shelby Swann had 10 points to lead Trinity.
