YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – Young Harris College's Guilherme Frias has been named the Peach Belt Conference's Men's Tennis Player of the Week ending Feb. 17.
Frias, a 5-foot-10 sophomore from Rio de Janiero, Brazil, won the final five games of his singles match to help Young Harris College record a 5-4 upset over 20th-ranked Francis Marion University Sunday (Feb. 17) afternoon
With the overall match tied at 4, Frias rallied to win in three sets at the third flight of singles. Gavin Dawson won the opening set 7-6 (10-8), before Frias fought back with 7-6 (7-0) win in set two. Dawson broke early in the deciding third set to take a 3-1 advantage; however, Frias broke back and then won the next four games to close out the match.
Young Harris swept the doubles matches to open a 3-0 lead. Joan Valls and Frias rallied from a 6-5 hole to win their final three games over the No. 12 duo of Alex Caspari and Dawson to take an 8-6 victory in the first flight.
Young Harris (4-0) will return to action Sunday (Feb. 24) when they travel to Jefferson City, Tenn., for a 1 p.m. match against Carson-Newman College.
