This is completed through the education of student-athletes in injury prevention, injury care and rehabilitation, nutrition, training techniques, and healthy choices for life. The Mountain Lion athletic training program continually improves upon the current knowledge available in the sports medicine field regarding the newest treatment, rehabilitation, and prevention techniques in order to enhance each student-athlete's athletic success.

Athletic Training for Visiting Teams

There will be a Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC) at every home sporting event or on call if there are multiple home events taking place at the same time.  In the instance that an ATC cannot be at a home sporting event, a Student Athletic Trainer (SAT) will be there with a medical kit and radio.  Each SAT is CPR certified and is familiar with the YHC Emergency Action Plan.
If an ATC is not able to travel with your team, please e-mail the Young Harris ATC that will be covering the event or send a letter outlining any treatment plans needed by your athletes.  Also, please provide a kit with any necessary supplies.  Each sporting event will have a nearby athletic training room or taping area.  Listed below is what can be expected at each specific sporting event:

Lightning Safety Policy

Lightning is a dangerous phenomenon.  Athletic teams that practice and compete outdoors are at risk when weather is inclement.  The Athletic Training staff has developed a lightning safety policy to minimize the risk of injury from a lightning strike to YHC’s athletes, coaches, support staff and fans.  To monitor lightning the Athletic Training staff, visiting teams, and game-day administrators utilize an automated Lightning Email Alert iStrike Service.  Our policy is in accordance with the 2011-2012 NCAA Sports Medicine Handbook regarding lightning safety.  A member of the Athletic Training staff will monitor the weather and will notify the game day administrator, head coach, and officials of the presence of a dangerous weather situation and subsequently suspend the activity.  In the event that a dangerous scenario presents itself, student-athletes, coaches, staff members, officials, and any spectators or bystanders are required to evacuate to athletic buildings, locker rooms, vehicles, dugouts, or any nearby suitable shelters.

Activity will resume 30 minutes AFTER the last lightning strike within 5 miles.
